A story about leaving, becoming, and belonging.
As a child of a first generation immigrant, life was a little different. I truly believe my hustle and resilience stems from being raised by a lady who left her hometown and everything she knew in Ghana at the age of 19 with an older man who found her pretty and moved to the United States. She ended up becoming a registered nurse, & happily married, with a stable, beautiful life.
These stories often remain unsaid as they are raw, painful, and real but these are the same stories that connect humans as a whole. These stories give hope, compassion, and empathy which is what the world is in need of right now. Immigrants leave their homes to find better and to give better to their loved ones and themselves and are often met with disdain.
This documentary will help people who suffer with ignorance to really see what a lot of immigrants go through all in the name of love - especially now with the way immigrants are being treated as if they are ants on the floor when in fact, they are superheroes who have gain an insane amount of resilience all for a better life.
We will dive into their childhoods, the decisions to relocate to America/Europe, relocating, navigating a foreign country, and their state of mind as of now while debriefing with a professional counselor on the topic of resilience. The documentary is focused on story telling and should flow with stories being told in detail and the emotions felt at the time. We will touch on the science behind resilience, family dynamics, spirituality, religion, physical, mental, spiritual, and emotional abuse. There are a lot of kids and adults who still fail to understand their foreign parents because being born and raised in a completely different timeline, culture, and society is not discussed as much as it should be. Especially because of how diverse America and Europe are.
This documentary is relevant in letting people who feel so different, finally feel seen. I was fortunate enough to have a few friends who grew up in the same dynamic as me but a lot of people do not have that. It's a weird feeling that should be shared. Being seen as foreign in the country you were born and raised in to going back home to your homeland where your parents were born and raised in and still being seen as a foreigner is a feeling that can only be shared with likeminded individuals.
I want these four super stars to feel comfortable telling their stories and telling it in the most authentic way possible. Their stories can help heal, empathize, and build relationships in ways I can’t even imagine.
Stay close to the story.
